The complaint centers on the design of plastic covers fitted to the vehicles’ subframes. It alleges those covers can trap water, road salt, dirt, and other debris against structural metal components, creating conditions that accelerate rust. The lawsuit further claims the corrosion can develop out of sight, meaning owners and technicians may not notice the issue during routine walkarounds or basic service visits.
The case remains an allegation, not a finding of defect or liability. No court determination has established that Audi’s design is faulty, and the specific outcome could range from dismissal to settlement, repair program, reimbursement process, or continued litigation. Still, the claims matter because the subframe is not a cosmetic component. It is a major structural assembly that helps locate and support key suspension, steering, and drivetrain parts.
