Chevrolet’s new Corvette ZR1X has added a major credential before most buyers have had the chance to see one on the road: a production-car record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

The ZR1X completed the 12.42-mile mountain course in 9:30.104, lowering the previous production-car benchmark by more than 23 seconds. The car was driven by JR Hildebrand, an IndyCar veteran with Pikes Peak experience, on one of the most demanding paved courses in motorsport.
